You've really done your homework, and now you have a resume you feel good about, a cover letter strategy, and maybe a LinkedIn profile too.
You're ready to dive into your job search.
But ARE you ready? There is a big penalty for applying to jobs if you are not hitting the mark.
How can you be sure you are headed in the right direction?
I have been at this for a while (#notanoob), and I have found that most job seekers find it very helpful to get actionable feedback from a job search expert who has seen hundreds of resumes and LinkedIn profiles across industries and met with many, many recruiters to better understand their needs. I have never had a session with a job seeker where they did not learn something that increased their odds of getting the interviews they knew they deserved.
If you ask different recruiters or hiring managers for feedback on your resume they will give you different answers. This can be really frustrating. I am constantly listening to recruiters and researching the new and the next in job search trends, which allows me to provide the most actionable feedback.
Here's the process:
1) You'll click a link to schedule a video chat for a time that works for you.
You'll have access to my calendar and can pick a spot immediately, for the next business day if I'm available. Easy peasy.
2) During our meeting, we will review your resume together (go team!)
We'll chat about your experiences, education, and skills to make sure your strengths don't stay hidden (as they are in many women's resumes).
3) I'll give you feedback on both form and content to make sure it:
4) Here's what you WON'T get in a resume review: criticism or judgment.
This is an empowering process to make sure that your strengths are highlighted in the most compelling way possible. There are no stupid questions or penalties for not getting the memo about how to write a resume. This stuff is complicated for everyone!
Here is what others have to say about their work with me:
When I ask most job seekers about their LinkedIn Profiles, they say "oh, yeah, I've got one. I don't use it much, though."
What this says to me is that, like most job seekers, they don't understand how important the Profile is, they don't understand how to get the most out of using LinkedIn, and their Profile probably could use some (a lot of) help.
LinkedIn can be an incredibly powerful tool if you know how to present yourself at your best and tap into the possibilities.
Here is the process for a LinkedIn Profile review (pretty much the same as above):
1) You'll click a link to schedule a video chat for a time that works for you.
You'll have access to my calendar and can pick a spot immediately, for the next business day if I'm available. Easy peasy.
2) During our video chat, we will review your Profile together
You can connect with me before our call so that I can see all the goodness you can only see if you are a connection.
3) I'll give you feedback to make sure your Profile:
If time allows, we can chat about the best ways to start using the platform more proactively to make those connections that are essential.
I call these reviews Job Search Insurance because you are making sure that you don't blow a great opportunity just because no one ever explained how to do this stuff correctly. It's hard. It's complicated. Everyone has an opinion.
